夏の始まり/Summer begins

更地のトマト/Tomatos on vacant land

散歩をしていると思わぬ発見をたまにします。

When I walk around near my apartment, 

I sometimes find interesting things.

ビルの狭間にある更地。

A vacant land between buildings.

よく見るとそこここに、トマトが自生しています。

Tomatos grow here and there. 

赤い実もなっています。

A red tomato.

水をあげないトマトは美味しいというので、

このトマトも美味しいかもしれない。

でも他人の土地に生えているものなので、

味わってみたい気持ちを抑え、観ているだけにします。

I always hear that the hint of growing sweet tomato

is to water less.  So I think this tomato might taste good. 

I want to try it, but I won't. 

自家製の梅ジュースはいつの間にかアルコール発酵

していました。アルコールを飲まない私は

すぐ酔っぱらってしまいました。

Plum juice turned to be an alcohol drink. 

I got drunk. 

今年はバルコニーで勝手に生えているミントが旺盛です。

花の植え替えを繰り返しているうちに、土がこぼれ落ちて

育ち易い環境が整っているのかもしれません。

ミントティーでも近々作ってみようかと思います。

Mint is growing well this year. 

Maybe it's because the soil drops from the flower pots

increase year by year. 

ひょうたんも急激に育っています。

つる性植物には「目」があるんじゃないでしょうか。

的確に色々なものに掴まっていきます。

Gourd grows well too. 

I think they have eyes as they catch things with vines very well. 

千倉へ/To Chikura

週末は昼頃から思い立って千葉の千倉に行きました。

南房総の暖かい気候で育てる、花畑が有名ですが、

今の時期は何も植わっていませんでした。残念。

We drove to Chikura this afternoon.

With its warm climate, the area is famous for flower plantation, 

but unfortunately, this time, no flowers.

そこで、夫が前から行きたかったというカフェに。

「サンドカフェ」

So we changed our mind and visited a cafe 

that my husband had wanted to go.

"Sand Cafe"

海をテーマにしたインテリアの

落ち着いた雰囲気の中、

美味しい食事とデザート、珈琲を頂きました。

We had carry, cake, coffee, and juice.

何よりも嬉しかったのが、子連れだった私たちの為に

あらかじめシフォンケーキを細かく角切りにして出してくれるなど、

細かい気配りが嬉しかったです。

Not only food they serve, the people working there 

were so kind and amazing. 

お食事が美味しくて、雰囲気がよくても、

なんか居心地が悪いな。

というお店も多い中、お腹も心もほっとさせてくれる、

素敵なお店でした。

There are many stylish cafes which serve wonderful food, 

but somehow make me feel uncomfortable due to not welcoming attitude 

of people working, but this cafe was not one of them at all. 

海も澄んでて綺麗でした。

これから、夏本番です。

The beach was clean and water was clear.

Yes, summer begins! 

パクチーの実/Cilantro fruits

花が終わった香菜の実がなっています。

Cilantro fruits.

小さな緑色の実。

つぶしてみると、強いパクチーの香りの中に、

レモンのような爽やかな香り、花のような甘い香りなど、

いくつもの層が折り重なった複雑な香りがします。

When crushing a fruit, in ordinary cilantro scent, you notice 

several flavors such as lemon zest, sweet flower scent.. and so on. 

Very complicated scent.

魚料理などにつけ合わせたらよさそうです。

Could match with seafood dishes. 

新顔たち/New Face

季節が変わると、植物の顔ぶれも変化が。
When season changes, there come new plants. 

白いつる植物の花、三兄弟。
A climbing plant's flowers.

ひょうたんです。
Gourd. 

こんな可愛らしくて、ひょうきんな形でも

毒があるそうです。小学校で育てていたヒョウタンを

食べて食中毒になってしまったというニュースが昨日ありました。
Their shape is adorable, but they are poisonous.

I heard the news that elementary school kids ate them and
got sick yesterday.

ルッコラはたった二日で芽を出しました。

近所のおじさんからもらった、イタリア産のルッコラの原種の種。

早く大きくなってサラダにするのが待ち遠しいです。
Arugula. Wild kind. The sprouts started to come up in two days. 
Can't wait to eat them in salads.

涼しい雨の合間を縫ってまたバラが咲きました。

今の季節はアザミウマなど、成長の邪魔をする虫がいないので、

のびのびと育っています。
Roses started to bloom again. 
This time they are not bothered by harmful thrips.

イチゴの花もピンクの花を次々と咲かせています。

このイチゴは酸っぱくて食べられないので、

お花の可愛らしさがメインです。
Strawberry flowers bloom well again.
Their berries are too sour and cannot eat, so I enjoy only flowers.

多肉植物寄せ植え/New succulents' arrangement

週末は夫がせっせと寄せ植えをしていました。

買いだめておいた多肉植物の苗を大きな鉢に植えました。
My husband was planting succulents last weekend.

男らしい、ダイナミックな作品。

やっぱり植える人によって個性が出ます。
Wild arrangement in a big pot.
His character is reflected on this.

もう一つの夫の功績は、

リコッタパンケーキ作りでした。

お店だと、２枚くらいだけど、家で作ると

沢山食べられるのが幸せです。
His another achievement in the weekend is the
ricotta pancakes. I have eaten three or four.  

季節が終わったと思ったマーガレットもまた

咲き出しました。春の頃より花も小ぶりで色も薄いですが、

頑張って咲いています。
Marguerite started to bloom again even though the color is  pale
and the flowers are smaller than those in spring.

庭での収穫/Harvest

庭のベリーや野菜が、食べ頃になってきました。
It's the harvest season.

 ブラックベリーはもう少し
Blackberries, we have to wait to pick a bit.

ブルーベリーは一日にこれだけ採れます。

ブラックベリーは若い実を娘がもぎとってしまったので、

飾りつけや、おままごとに使います。
So many blueberries are ready to be picked everyday. 
My daughter picked blackberries which are too young to eat, 
we'll use them for decoration.
