Eating bamboo shoots

Did bamboo shoot hunting at the relative's backyard.
The season was a bit late, but we could get plenty.

Boil with rice bran and dried chili pepper right away to remove a harsh taste
from the bamboo shoots.  Boil about an hour. Many text books say the skins should Not be removed,
but I do remove them usually.  It's no problem.

So excited that I can eat them everyday.
Wash out the rice bran and keep them in clear water in fridge.

Clustering-gourd

I have picked pips of clustering-gourd a couple of months ago.

I've been waiting for the sprouts coming out for a few weeks.
Look, they came out!

Heuchera in a single flower vase

Still chilly, but it's sunny today.

Heuchera in the hunging pot is getting too big, so I cut some.

Orange looks like a fall color, but this vase is
good for putting a leaf as it looks like an umbrella.

Fancy seeds

Because of rainy weekend, I couldn't garden.
So I bought some fancy seeds instead.
They are radish, cucumis, and tarragon from France.

The weather turned to be cold again.

Varieties of peas are in season. I made a  pea salad with early red onion.
Fennel from our balcony garden adds fresh scent.

Japanese Plants

I found calanthes just started to bloom in our Japanese garden.

Our relative presented this to us, and one plant was multiplied by division.

The name of the plant replanted with Japanese pot is "Heuchera."
I thought it was a Japanese plant, but it is actually from North America.

Thunbery spirea is also in full bloom.
I arranged it with tiny Japanese vase.
I cut the branches too much last year, but I won't this year.

Roses and Marguerites

Nice weather today.

This marguerite joined our balcony garden this year.
The flowers change color from orange to pink.

After banksia rose, it will be this climbing rose to bloom.

This rose blooms big deep red flowers.
It is easy to handle as there are few thorns.

However, I found leaves which look like fungus infected.
It is a powdery mildew.
Maybe I poured too much water.
