Flower and berry

Flowers blooming on our balcony.

Roses.  The flowers are big, but the color and shape
are not perfect. There's still lot to learn about growing beautiful roses.

Passion fruits. It looked tired after surviving cold winter outside,
but it has many buds now.

Blueberries. They grow so fast. Can't wait till summer
when I can taste them. I have to place nets to prevent birds from eating them up.

思い出の地へ/a memorable day in my memorial place

Visited the place where I spent a lot of time during my childhood.

A beautiful flower field, I would have loved it if I found it when I was a little girl.

Beside the rice field, I see more flowers than before.
Could be pips flown from people's garden?

Mt.Fuji was hidden by cloud today,
but I charged a lot of energy with mother nature which grew me up.

Care for air plants

Air plants absorb night dew.

Mist it every 2-3 days at night.
It hates humidity and doesn't absorb water during daytime.
So it should be watered at night.

This is not for eating. I am soaking it in the water.
I do it 1-2 times a month to make airplants' color more vivid.

During growth season (spring/fall) airplanes need much water,
but in summer/winter, they need less water as they stop growing.

It looks like airplants need no care, but actually they do.

Hainanese chicken rice

It was hot like summer yesterday, so I was in the mood for Asian dish.
I made Hainanese chicken rice with herb grown on our balcony.

Coriander, nasturtium, and micro tomato.

Boil water with ginger, garlic, scallion, and sake.
Put chicken, turn the stove off, put the lid, and leave it for an hour.

Cook rice with above chicken soup.
The sauce is made with say sauce, ginger, garlic, coriander roots,
oyster sauce, lemon juice, and sugar

The boiled water with chicken will be a soup.
Put some scallion and the soup has a savory flavor.

Hanging flowers with petunia

After the rose season, the balcony garden is very quiet
losing a star, so I made another hanging flowers to brighten it up.

Purple petunia

Replanted left-over plants such as miniature rose, ivy, and geranium.

Red rose with powdery mildew, I have re-planted it with
new soil, and put it in a different place where the environment might be
more suitable than before.  The rose doesn't have stings at all that's what I like,
I hope it will recover.

Made lemonade and took a break.

Baby Echeveria

I was looking at the Echeveria flower and found out

that she was pregnant.

Pealing dead layers, I found two babies.

Talking about babies, this lady agave gave birth a couple of times.

She has three kids, and below is one of them.

Another surprising thing,

From dead Echeveria flower branch,
there came a new flower bud.

Succulents are immortal, so amazing.

Care for marguerite and rose

I picked waste flowers of marguerite today.

Below photo is about ten days ago.
Now, half of the flowers start to die.

I gave Hyponex to them.
Hope they will bloom again this year.

Roses start to have many buds,
but too many buds could make each flower smaller.

I cut one branch to enjoy it at home.
Each year, thrips taint the flowers, but if I cut it before they bloom,
they won't be harmed.

Lucky puffball

Puffballs land on our apartment.
Sometimes at the entrance, sometimes in the hallway.

I know it is some plant's puffball, but can't help but
expect good fortune to come.

Balcony in hot spring day

So hot like summer today.
Our balcony garden fully enjoys the blessing of the sun.

Gourd sprouts, need to be re-planted in a bigger pot soon.

Echeveria about to bloom. Have cute vitamin color flowers.

View of climbing rose outside of the balcony.

The white climbing rose finished blooming.

Picking waste flowers are important. It takes time but it's a fun chore.

Care it, and it will bloom again.

Making a dish with half dried vegetables

Hot weather today.
This kind of weather, hot but not humid, is suitable for
making half dried vegetables.

Like this.

Sun bathing cucumbers.

Half dried after four, five hours.

Marinated these vegetables with white chicken meat, plum pickles,
Myoga, soy sauce, sake and sesame oil.

This dish can be made with raw vegetables as well.
Half dried vegetables give different texture and concentrated taste of vegetables.
